David Goodin

David L. Goodin graduated from West Fargo High School in 1979, earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical and electronics engineering from North Dakota State University in 1983, a master’s in business administration from the University of North Dakota in 2002 and graduated from the Harvard Advanced Management Program in 2006. Dave is a registered professional engineer in North Dakota.

Dave started his career with Montana-Dakota Utilities Co. in 1983 as an electrical engineer in Dickinson, North Dakota. He transferred in 1986 to Glendive, Montana. In 1989, he was promoted to Division Electric Superintendent in Williston, North Dakota. He transferred in 1993 to Bismarck, North Dakota, where he was Electric Systems Supervisor, then was promoted in 1999 to Electric Systems Manager and again in 2000 to Vice President of Operations. In 2007, Dave

was promoted to President of Cascade Natural Gas Corporation, a utility serving Oregon and Washington. In early 2008, Dave also became President of Montana-Dakota Utilities Co., which serves utility customers in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming, and Great Plains Natural Gas Corporation, which serves utility customers in Minnesota and eastern North Dakota. Later in 2008, Dave also assumed the responsibilities of President of Intermountain Gas Company, which serves utility customers in Idaho. In addition to his role as President, Dave was named Chief Executive Officer for the four utility companies late in 2008.

In 2013, Dave was named President and Chief Executive Officer of MDU Resources Group, Inc. MDU Resources Group is the largest publicly traded company headquartered in North Dakota. It owns the four utility companies that Dave led, as well as Knife River Corporation, a construction materials and contracting business operating in 17 states; MDU Construction Services Group, Inc., a construction services business operating in 47 states; and WBI Energy, Inc., a natural gas pipeline business operating primarily in the Bakken region.

Dave is involved in numerous civic organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors of Sanford Bismarck, the Missouri Valley YMCA, the North Dakota State University Alumni Association and as Trustee for the Bismarck State College Foundation Dave married Patricia “Pat” (Redfield of Fargo) in 1983. They have three grown daughters, who are married and have blessed them with nine grandchildren thus far, with No. 10 on the way.
