Gary Clark

Gary Clark was born to Eldon and Ruth Clark. Gary was raised in Valley City with 3 siblings and graduated as Co-Salutatorian from Valley City High School in 1967. Following high school Gary attended and graduated from Valley City State University earning a BS in Secondary Education with a History major and Economics minor while a member of Kappa Delta Pi. In 1971 upon completion of college, Gary accepted a position as a full time Social Studies teacher at West Fargo High School (WFHS). In addition to teaching, Gary helped establish the

boys’ and girls’ tennis program at West Fargo High School in 1975. Gary assisted in coaching both programs from 1975-1982. In 1981 Gary transitioned into the role of part-time assistant principal and part-time Social Studies teacher at WFHS. It was also during this time that Gary earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Tri-College University (North Dakota State University). After sharing the role as assistant principal and teacher for 6 years, Gary accepted a full-time Assistant Principal position in 1987 at WFHS. In 1989, he earned a Specialist in Education Degree in Educational Administration from Tri-College University (North Dakota State University). With vast experience Gary accepted the position of Principal at WFHS from 1998-2011 before briefly retiring and returning for 2 more years as Principal from 2012-2013. Gary worked at the West Fargo High School for 41 years, participating in every level of education. Gary went into education because of his love of working with young people. He could routinely be found at the many musical, drama and sporting events, cheering loudly for his West Fargo students. His battle cry? Go Packers! For his dedication Gary was rewarded with various awards and honors, to include but not limited to: Jaycees Outstanding Young Educator for ND in 1980, Warren E. Shull Advisor of the Year Award for ND in 1995 for the National Association of Student Councils and ND Association of Student Councils, Assistant Principal of the Year Award for ND in 1996, President of the ND Association of Secondary School Principals from 2007-2008, ND Principal of the Year Award in 2009,

 

Valley City State University Certificate of Merit Award in 2009, and current Second Vice- President of the West Fargo Educational Foundation. Gary’s life outside of the WFHS includes dedicated volunteer work with his church, Story Book Christian Camp and Churches United for the Homeless. Gary enjoys singing, playing piano, hiking, and camping. Along with his wife of 45 years, Carol, Gary loves to travel and spend time with three children and grandchildren
