From 1977-1982 he gave drug intervention talks in the West Fargo Elementary Schools.  Greg presented to the Law and Justice classes at West Fargo High School from 1980-1993 and in 1990, he started CounterAct Drug Program for all 5th grade classes in West Fargo

elementary schools.  His involvement in the lives of West Fargo students extended beyond the classroom as he served as a 7th grade football coach with Mike McLeod for 17 years and assisted Larry Lubben in the broadcast booth for West Fargo Packer football from 1977-2017.  He loved coaching and gave nicknames to his players, which they enjoyed.  His excitement from great plays and touchdowns is legendary.  Starting in 2005 through 2017, he supervised the juvenile officers and the School Resource Officers in the West Fargo high schools, middle schools, and elementary schools, as well as the D.A.R.E program for all 5th grade students.   Greg was a proponent of inclusion and was a member of the Law Enforcement Olympics Torch Run from 1993-2017 for the ND Special Olympics, and in 2004 received the North Dakota Special Olympics State Recognition Award.

In 1982 Greg was promoted to Patrol Sergeant.  From 1994-2004 he was the manager of the evidence room and yearly audits and served as a part-time supervisor for investigations from 1999-2004.  Due to the seriousness of the Meth usage in North Dakota, Greg partnered with Results Unlimited to produce a video outlining an account of methamphetamine in North Dakota.  In 2006 that video was awarded an EMMY.   In 2006-2023 he was a member of the Sex Offender Containment Task Force and became the Sex Offender program coordinator from 2008-2023.  From 2010-2023 he was the CART (Child Abduction Response Team) Coordinator for 17 law enforcement and non-law enforcement agencies involved.  The CART program for West Fargo was certified in 2012 by the U.S. Department of Justice.  In 2012-2023 he was a member of the Sexual Assault Response Team and served as a member from 2014-2023 for the Elder Abuse Committee.  In 2017 Greg was promoted to Lieutenant of Investigations and supervised 3 Sergeants who were responsible for School Resource Officers, Narcotics Division, and Investigations Division.  As Lieutenant he continued to be the coordinator for CART and Crime Free Housing until retirement in January 2023.

Greg’s 48-year career for the City of West Fargo Police Department from 1975 through 2023 reflected his commitment to building and maintaining a safe community, with particular interest in protecting children and those most vulnerable.  For his dedication Greg received many awards from the community he served to include the West Fargo Police Department, VFW, Jaycees, and Exchange Club.  In 1996 he was honored as the North Dakota Peace Officer of the Year.  In 2011 he received the Packer Backer Award, and in 2020 he received the Scheels Hometown Hero Award, which was presented by Scheels and the American Heroes Outdoors.

Greg remains committed to law enforcement in his post-retirement life as a volunteer with Riding Tide Software in Fargo assisting in the development of an app for critical incidents and everyday law enforcement operations.  In addition to volunteering, he finds time to enjoy summers at Lake Elsie and winters in Arizona with his wife Brenda.  Greg continues to hunt and fish with his son Tim, his family, and his best friend Dennis Rheault.  Greg and Brenda enjoy hiking with their daughter Katie and have been on many hiking adventures, including the Grand Canyon.  Greg loves watching his grandchildren play baseball and volleyball, even though they are Mustangs!  Once a Packer, always a Packer!
