Jim Thompson

Class of 1967. Mr. Thompson was a National Merit Scholar at Macalester College and earned his BS in Elementary Education from the University of North Dakota in 1973. He received an MS degree from the University of Oregon in 1978 and an MBA from Stanford University in 1986. He founded Positive Coaching Alliance in 1998, a national movement to transform youth sports so sports can transform youth. His seventh book on coaching and sports, “Elevating Your Game: Becoming a Triple-Impact Competitor,” will be published in 2011. In 2004 Jim was named a Fellow by Ashoka: Innovators for the Public for outstanding social entrepreneurship. The Institute for International Sport awarded PCA and Jim its “Power of Good” award and named Jim one of the top 100 sports educators in the United States.
