Tyler Roehl

Tyler Alexander Roehl was born January 29, 1986, and was raised proudly in West Fargo, ND. Tyler is the middle child of Richard and the late Marilyn Roehl. Throughout his youth, Tyler was active in many sports and activities including FM athletics football, traveling basketball, and Babe Ruth baseball. By the time Tyler reached high school, he excelled in football and baseball achieving athletic letters from 9th to 12th grade. His successes on the field earned him the privilege of being named North Dakota player of the year, EDC player of the year, Team MVP, All State, All Conference, Team Captain, and State Championship player of the game 2002 and 2003. Tyler helped lead the Packers to two North Dakota Class 3A Eastern Dakota Conference Football titles in 2002 and 2003.

One of Tyler’s most notable memories was the day he was signed to play collegiate football for the North Dakota State Bison. Tyler was recruited as a fullback and achieved great success in the backfield as a tailback. While Tyler garnered recognition for his athletic talents over the years, much of his fan notoriety took place following a 2007 game against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. He ran for a school record 263 yards in the 27-21 win over Minnesota. A 2007 Sports Network and Associated Press second team FCS All-American, Roehl rushed 207 times for 1,431 yards and 21 touchdowns in leading the Bison to a 10-1 record that season. Roehl led the Great West Football Conference in rushing, scoring and all-purpose yards.

Tyler, an All-American running back and four-year letterman, rushed 1,053 yards, for 13 touch downs on 171 carries, in 2008. He was a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-AmericaR University Division first team selection and named to the 2008 All-State AFCA Good Works Team. Roehl finished his college career as the eighth leading rusher in NDSU history with 2,512 yards.

Roehl graduated from North Dakota State in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education and again in 2014 with a master’s degree in health, nutrition, and exercise science.

Roehl signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2009 as an undrafted free agent but injury sidelined him as a player. He transitioned to a career as the running backs coach and junior varsity offensive coordinator at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN, in 2010. Between his coaching stints at NDSU, Roehl spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons on the Moorhead High School football staff under former Bison quarterback Kevin Feeney.

With great enthusiasm Tyler returned to his alma mater as the tight ends and fullbacks coach in 2014. He was elevated to offensive coordinator in 2019. He was named to the 2020 class of American Football Coaches Association’s 35 Under 35 Coaches Leadership Institute. Tyler still holds the NDSU offensive coordinator position today.

Overall, including Tyler’s time as a graduate assistant with NDSU in 2011, he has been a part of NDSU’s seven FCS titles and eight Missouri Valley Football Conference titles, as a coach. He has also had a hand in helping over 20 players reach the NFL.

He and his wife, Mary, reside in West Fargo and have a son, Maxwell, and two daughters, Evelyn and Gabrielle.
